A soldier sits holding a note, his head hung in sorrow and helmet at his feet. He holds his rifle and sits on an old jerry can.

On the plinth is an inscription which reads:

'A Soldier of
World War Two

Decades of easy peace may go their way
And tide, and time, may drift us far apart,
But you who shared our savage yesterday
Will hold the highest places in our heart.

This statue was erected
from donations made by
veterans, organisations, individuals
and the business community.
