The tower is located near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 16th Street, across from the Parkway Shopping Center. Of course, since it is a tower, it can be seen from a distance without any problems. Considering its age, it looks to be in decent condition.

The 1943 description from the datasheet reads:

01/01/1943 by CGS (FIRST OBSERVED)

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 (GWL) THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS THE OPELIKA MILLS TANK. IT IS A CYLINDRICAL BOWL ATOP A FOUR-LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE, OVERALL HEIGHT ABOUT 50 FEET AND IS PAINTED ALUMINUM COLOR. IT IS THE NORTHERLY OF 2 TANKS OWNED BY THE COMPANY AND IS LOCATED IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA ABOUT 0.15 MILE N OF THE FACTORY AND 0.1 MILE N OF U.S. HIGHWAY 29. THE POINT OBSERVED UPON WAS THE BALL AT THE APEX OF THE ROOF OF THE TANK.
