Port De Soller is these days a popular tourist destination on the west coast of Mallorca.

Historically however its natural harbour meant that the port was subject to raids from pirates. The museum is located in the port's oldest building, the Oratory of St Catherine of Alexandria, built in 1280. The oratory was built on the headland overlooking the port in a naturally defensive position, as safe as possible from attack by the pirates.

The building is now a maritime museum and this screw is one of a few exhibits standing outside the building.
