The Famous Jug Bridge - Frederick, MD - U.S. 40 - The National Road on Waymarking.com

The postcard, shown to the left, is the artist depiction of the "Jug Bridge" then located three miles east of Frederick, MD. The nearby information sign states that the bridge was built over the Monacacy River in 1808 at a cost of $55,000. This figure would now be equivalent to $13.8 million. The five span stone bridge continued until collapsing in 1942 lead to its replacement. In 1965, the "jug" was relocated to this place as seen along Interstate 70.
