The junction of Pleasant Street (Route 5) and Main Street (Route 9) is the busiest intersection in in Northampton. On Saturday evening, May 19, 2012, 18 year old Harry Delmolino from nearby Hadley, MA, was struck by a car at this intersection and died from his injuries.
Delmolino collided with a car at about 7:11 p.m. Saturday. He had remained in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center until his death Tuesday afternoon, May 22. Police said Delmolino was riding eastbound on Main Street and was not wearing a helmet. Celso Avelar, 43, of Northampton, was driving when he turned left onto Pleasant Street from Main Street and collided with Delmolino, the police said.
