As you travel the southern slope of Cumbres Pass you cross the border between Colorado and New Mexico. Only a change in the pavement marks the actual border.

Colorado Highway 17 becomes New Mexico Highway 17 as you cross the state border north of Chama, New Mexico. The states have apparently coordinated their highway numbering to create this match. This highway follows roughly the same general route as the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway but since the railroad follows a much more twisty-turny path, it crosses the state border seven times instead of just once.
Type Of Crossing: State/Region
