You might think that an inland town is an unlikely place to have a pub named after a ship, but the inside of the pub has wood panelling that came from the ship when it was decommissioned in 1924.
Although the pub is designed to look like a Tudor building it dates from the 1924 just like the panelling. It was built to replace The Prince of Wales pub that was demolished as part of a road widening scheme.
The new pub retained the name the Prince of Wales until it was renamed The Old Ship Inn in 2007.
This
blog contains further details of the pub, whereas this
Wikipedia page has a full history of HMS Donegal.
