National Road 1 goes around the island, from the capital city, São Tomé, to the north, until it comes to a halt in a point where the jungle basically swallowed the asphalt. This milestone is a heritage of the Portuguese times (1495-1975), being manufactured in stone, as were all the road marks in the Portuguese mainland. It is located in one of the last drivable segments of this road, but it's is extremely distressed. Only the road denomination is still visible - EN 1. Not possible to read the number of the Km.
