Fleet Steps built in 1908 are named after the American Great White Fleet visit to Sydney in 1908 \while on a round the world cruise. The Steps have been used for many important events. They were ascended by Queen Elizabeth II in 1954 on her first visit to Australian soil. Todaythe Fleet Steeps, running from the walkway along Farm Cove to Mrs. Macquaries Road, are quite popular with runners to use for training with hundreds doing multiple trips up and down them.
