Camp ANF-3 (Red Bridge) - McKean County, Pennsylvania
ANF- 3 (Red Bridge) is an important camp, and has been provided with this roadside historic marker by the Allegheny National Forest. It was exceptionally long lived... it started as a CCC camp in 1933, became a Veteran's camp in 1937-38, became the property of the ANF until 1944, when it was purchased by the War Department and used as a German and Italian Prisoner of War camp. Conscientious objectors, mostly Amish and Mennonites, were also housed here during WWII. The buildings were also utilized as headquarters when the Kinzua Dam on the Allegheny River was being built by the Army Corps of Engineers. No structures remained after 1983. There are now only flagstone walkways, stone entrance pillars and chimneys, and concrete foundations.
