This replica was created for the Disney film "Ten Who Dared" which chronicled the epic first voyage of Powell and his companions down the Green and Colorado Rivers.

John Wesley Powell is well-known throughout the west as the leader of the first expedition to take a boat through the Grand Canyon in 1869. But this was not just an exciting river-running trip, it was a scientific expedition to survey and map the river and study the flora and fauna of the area. Powell accomplished what many people called an impossible task and even led a better-equipped second expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers. And it was done in small wooden boats like the Emma Dean.
