The Timberlake Rose Rock Museum offers information on the formation of barite roses in red sandstone, a process that happens nowhere else on earth other than in a narrow strip running through southeastern OK.
The barite rose is the state rock of OK, and ginormous specimens can be found in the museum.
They also offer advice on where it is legal to find rose rocks. Mmany of the best dig sites are on private property, but some are on public lands that are open to all. Don't want to hunt your own? They have many MANY rose rocks for sale in the museum, in all sizes -- single rocks and clusters. They also have handmade rose rock scupltures and jewelry.
