This muffler man complements an assortment of ginormous animals catching the eye along I-35, drawing attention to Steppin' Out Outfitters near Wynnewood OK.
Fromthe website Roadside America, comes some interesting movie history about this particular Cowby Muffler Man:
"This is a muffler man cowboy at Steppin' Out Western Wear. Steppin' Out owner Harold Marcum says he bought the cowboy from an individual who leased it to the film company that produced the movie Twister. Marcum says the cowboy (approx 22 ft tall) was placed in a pond at Garvin County Lake for a scene in the film that was not used in the final production. [Greg Holmes, 09/14/2009]"
The same webpage relates how this Muffler Man was also apparently destroyed and repaired after an encounter with the severe weather that OK is famous for:
"Muffler Man - Smashed!
I was a bit surprised when I stopped to see the Wynnewood cowboy to find him missing from his container. Furthermore his container was completely smashed by the fallen sign advertising the western wear store. Inside they told me a bad windstorm had come through in mid-December and knocked the sign down, which hit him on its way. and they found him in 3 pieces on the ground the following morning.
He is being repaired in either Nebraska or Oklahoma City (the lady there wasn't sure which) and will return hopefully by this coming summer. I was able to take some pictures of him before he ships north. [Joel Baker, 01/11/2012]"
