This is the termination of the major river system of the sovereign island of Singapore, and, it is a complicated story. Once upon a time the Singapore River meandered gently down to the sea, here, however, between then and now the energetic and benevolent government of Singapore has shaped, reshaped, recovered, reclaimed, modified, and then did some more work on the River mouth.
At the current time there is a new Marina Bay development underway, on and down stream from the River mouth, with lots of buildings and clean cut, respectable tourist things (gardens, fountains, aviary, nature walks, lookouts, sculpture, etc), nearing completion, plus a really big, classy, high-class, expensive casino. This includes a new dam construction project at the River mouth. The totality of this project will help secure the water supply of Singapore, prevent flooding, and become one more big tourist attraction in the City of the Merlion.
I did read that at one time five separate rivers confluenced here, but now there seem to be only two, the Singapore River and the Kallang River. The confluence of which is only 1km or so inland from the destination, so I thought it might be a tad shallow to waymark them separately.
On the south side of the river mouth is a "viewing pad" (in gallery) projecting a dozen metres or so into the River. This is the waymark location. The default photo was taken from here. As you can see there is a major obstruction at the River mouth.
To visit the locale is easy and pleasant. One can stroll along the River shore from the city centre, passing by dozens of tourist things, or take a bus, or a private vehicle.
