There is nothing at the location to indicate why this obelisk is here. No inscription on the obelisk or nearby plaque with information. The obelisk, made from Portland stone has been recently cleaned and looks in pristine condition.
Searches on the internet reveal nothing about the origins of the obelisk but is mention in some of the websites that list walks along the side of the Thames. Sadly they have the general comment along the lines of "you will pass an obelisk".
