After the last CN train passed through this line in September 1996 the tracks were removed and the Oro-Mendonte Rail Trail was born. Approximately 28 kilometres long, it runs from Woodland Drive at the City of Orillia border to Penetanguishene Road at the City of Barrie border. The Hawkestone leg of the trail can be accessed from Oro Line 11 S at Mill St.
Activities permitted on the trail are walking, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling (with a valid OFSC permit). ATV's, motorcycles and cars are not permitted on the trail.
The township of Oro-Medonte welcomes donations for construction costs and ongoing maintenance of the rail trail.
