The Shafia sisters — Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17, and Geeti, 13, along with their father's first wife, Rona Mohammed, 50 were found dead in a submerged car in Kingston, Ontario, in 2009.
The Shafia Family murders took place during the early hours of June 30, 2009 at Kingston Mills, Ontario. The 4 bodies were discovered later that same day inside a car underwater in front of the northern most Kingston Mills lock of the Rideau Canal. The 3 youngest victims Zainab, Sahar, and Geeti were daughters of Mohammad Shafia and his wife Tooba Mohammad Yahya. The 4th victim Rona was the first wife of Mohammad Shafia. The couple also had a son Hamed, 20.
Just over 3 weeks later on July 23, 2009, the girls father Mohammad, mother Tooba Yahya, and son Hamed were arrested on charges of four counts of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
On January's 29, 2012 both parents Mohammad Shafia and Tooba Yahya, and their son, Hamed, were each found guilty of four counts of first-degree murder.
