In Provincetown, within the Cape Cod National Seashore, is the Province Lands Visitor Center, which has an observation deck on the second floor where you have a 360 degree view of the area at the end of Cape Cod.
To get to the visitor center, follow the sign for the Province Lands entrance from U.S. 6. The road winds through scrub forest and then to the parking lot, which is next to the center.
The visitor center is a gift shop, wildlife-nature center, and observation tower in one building. The building is a six-sided structure.
There are two decks. One is just a little higher than the center entrance. The second is over the visitor center area. Access to the top deck is by a flight of winding stairs. I did not see an elevator - you may want to call ahead if you are interested. The deck on top has a wonderful view of this part of the Cape. To the north, east, and west are the Cape Dunes, a series of slowly migrating hills of sand. To the south is the town of Provincetown, including the easily visible Pilgrim Monument tower. Also visible to the northwest is the Provincetown Municipal Airport. While you are up there, there are signs to help you interpret what you see, as well as some historical information, including the wreck of the H.M.S. Somerset, which ran aground about 3 miles east of this location.
The visitor center is open roughly mid-May to mid October. Check the web site for specific dates and announcements.
