If you visit the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, you'll want to visit this memorial flag that is located in a grassy circle along with two other sculptures. There is a marble headstone that contains the following inscription:
A PATRIOT'S BLOOD
IS THE SEED OF
FREEDOM'S TREE
TO THOSE WHO SERVED
Underneath the inscription are the insignias of all the armed services: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard in that order. Next to the inscription is a large tree which represents the freedom that so many men and women have given their lives for in support of freedom for all.
This cemetery has its own website and one paragraph on the website says the following words:
Veteran Recognition: We pay tribute to those Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have given the ultimate sacrifice for us. Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery honors those veterans with a monument at the base of our flag pole donated by the V.F.W. Every year a solemn Memorial Day mass is held at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In addition 50 United States flags are displayed along the entry drive and around the circle, during Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Independence Day.
The flag pole and marker are simple in appearance but the inscription that is implied is monumental in spirit and emotion. As a former military member of the armed services, I always enjoy visiting memorials such as these and appreciate the communities that support our veterans, wherever I travel.
