Although there is no accurate record on exact birthplace of John Amos Comenius, Czech educational reformer and religious leader, the city Uherský Brod belongs to tree alleged places. In 1992, Ivan Theimer, sculptor of Czech origin working mainly in France, donated to the city his work named according to one of the Comenius' books "Via Lucis" (The Way of Light). The work represents about 4 meters high bronze obelisk which is carried by a turtle (symbol of Eternity and Wisdom). Aside of the turtle there are two boys playing here their games with paper ships sending them out "to the world" (symbolizing education). On the obelisk there are engraved pages from most famous books like Orbis Pictus, Via Lucis, "Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart" and the other.
