Most of Padre Island is a U. S. Natl Seashore. Metal detecting is PROHIBITED. But Padre Balli Park is 1 of a few spots on the island where metal detecting is legal. Still be careful here: TX law prohibits digging up artifacts over 100 years old.

A good place to metal detect is at Bob Hall Pier in Padre Balli Park. For one thing, it's legal to metal detect in the park. And Bob Hall Pier is VERY HEAVILY VISITED, which means lots of coins get lost here. Also the likelihood that anything lost at Bob Hall Pier is over 100 years old is pretty slim.

One of North Padre Island's most preferred beaches by locals and visitors alike. Padre Balli Park is maintained by Nueces County. In the summer months lifeguards are on duty at this beach. The park is probably best known for it's legendary fishing pier "Bob Hall Pier." Located right on the Gulf of Mexico the park provides access for fishing, surfing, beachcombing, metal detecting, bar-b-que and more. On the gulf side of the dunes paved parking is provided for vehicles at no cost. A pedestrian only beach is runs the length of the park providing a family friendly environment. The park has fresh water shower rinses on the beach, restroom facilities and park office. Additionally a grill is located on Bob Hall Pier serving up seafood, burgers, beer and beverages daily with a view of the Gulf of Mexico while you enjoy your food.

Just on the other side of the dunes protected from the sea breezes camping is available. Both tent camping and paved R.V. sites are located right at the park. The R.V. site is separate from the tent sites and is accessible only by those staying there. Facilities include a dumping station, restrooms, pavilion and bar-b-que area and hook-ups. Check in for both tent and R.V. sites is at the park office adjacent to the campsites. Camping by tent is also available right on the beach either north or south of Padre Balli park. When tides are high this can be a difficult process and might be best to take advantage of the parks amenities.

Birds, fauna, and wildlife are regularly seen in the park. A paved park road runs behind the dunes making bicycling, walking and jogging readily available. A short exercise trail is also available.

Padre Balli Park ends just south of Bob Hall Pier. Beach Access Rd 5 provides and exit to the highway (Park Rd 22). If you continue to drive on the beach it is about 7 miles before another access to highway is available at North Beach just inside the Padre Island National Seashore. [end]
