This column can be found in a place known as Anambó, and it's a replica of a Portuguese "padrão". These stone markers were left by Portuguese navigators wherever they thought they had found new lands, as a territorial claim mark.

Anambó is the spot where the Portuguese arrived in São Tomé, back in 1471. Later, a first Portuguese settlement was founded here.
