The island of São Tomé is one of the two which form the country of Sao Tome and Principe, the second smallest in Africa. It was a Portuguese colony for about 500 hundred years, and it became independent in 1975.
The Portuguese government built a road, the EN 1, which is still in use and generally in good conditions. Only the last segment of it, leading to a plantation in the end of the island was abandoned, as the plantation ceased to exist. As a result the road was embraced by the jungle. Today is a narrow trail but there are some traces of those good old times, like some bits of asphalt and a couple of traffic signs, like the one in this waymark.
To get there you should drive until the road ends and keep going by foot.
