From Wikipedia: "Gerald "Gerry" Malcolm Durrell, OBE (January 7, 1925 – January 30, 1995) was a naturalist, zookeeper, conservationist, author and television presenter.".
He lived with his family on the Greek island Corfu from 1935 until 1939 when most of the family returned to England.
The monument is a life-size relief bust located in a sideway of the municipal park of Kerkyra. It is only a few steps away from a very similar monument for his more famous brother Lawrence.
The inscription says:
"GERALD DURELL 1925-1995
Corfu, the garden of the Gods...
Κέρκυρα, ο κήπος τών Θεών..."
The Garden of the Gods (American title: Fauna and Family) is the title of the third book in his autobiographical Corfu trilogy, published in 1978.
