Jirkov arised approximately in 13th century. The claim, that Jirkov was arised by king Premysl Otakar II. in 1269 isn't documented. The chronicles tells about this localite as the Borek or Jurkov in the years 1321 and 1337. Historic notes tells about the Jirkov in the year 1352.
The oldest monument in Jirkov is Dean's church St. Giles. Originally a Gothic church was built around the 1300th. In the 16th century was rebuilt. Inside the church is the tombs of important owners of the land.
TIC Jirkov is located in the basement of the house near by Dean's church St. Giles, in the 1st floor there is a town gallery.
