The A4 aka V2 was a ballistic missile developed in Germany during WW-2 by a team of scientists led by Walter Dornberger and Wernher von Braun. The first successful test firing took place at October 3, 1942 from Peenemünde.
For the first offensive launch against Britain a carefully selected location was chosen in Wassenaar covered by trees and close to the North Sea. From here the first V2 was launched to Britain on September 8, 1944. After a few minutes the rocket traveling at mach 4 landed in Chiswick, destroying a large part of Staveley Road, killing three and wounding 17 people.
