This bronze sculpture of a mermaid depicts the creature curling her head and tail up in an arch toward each other. There is no information at the site about the artist or date. A plaque however, reads:
"CARPA OLIVERA
UNA TRADICION DE MAZATLAN
RECUPERADA CON EL APOYO DEL
GOBERNADOR CONSTITUIONAL
DE SINALOA
JUAN S. MILLAN LIZARRAGA
SIENDO PRESIDENTE MUNICPAL
DE MAZATLAN
RICARDO RAMIREZ GONZALEZ
MAZATLAN, SIN., DIC.2004"
which Google translates as:
"CARPA OLIVERA
A TRADITION OF MAZATLAN
RECOVERED WITH SUPPORT
GOVERNOR CONSTITUIONAL
SINALOA
JOHN S. MILLAN LIZARRAGA
Being President MUNICPAL
MAZATLAN
RAMIREZ RICARDO GONZALEZ
Mazatlan, Sin., DIC.2004 "
Carpa Olivera refers to the ocean pool that sits below the cliff where this statue is located.
