The sign on this building is in Spanish and English. The English portion reads:
"German Notions
Store
The German Notions Store was founded in the late 1840s and
remained in operation for nearly 100 years. According to one turn
of the century description , its headquarters on the corner of Belisario Dominguez and Mariano Escobedo Streets, was filled
with a luxorious array of merchandise that included the latest in
everything from notions, hardware, tile, toys, jewelry and watches
to farm and mining tools, fine furniture, watercolors and paintings.
Also on sale were a variety of musical instruments, harmoniums and music boxes. During World War II, because of his German nationality,
the business' owner was forced to close his store and leave the country."
