The flag used to be the coat of arms of the family of Hofstetten who owned the area until the 15th century. Their former home, Ruine Sternenberg, can still be found on a rock in the forest between Hofstetten and Flüh.
I found the flag in the usual combination with the flags of the canton Solothurn and Switzerland in front of the town hall in the center of Hofstetten.
