"Lahden kaupungintalo on arkkitehti Eliel Saarisen 1911 suunnittelema myöhäisjugendia tyyliltään edustava rakennus. Talo on rakennettu tummasta punatiilestä, ja siinä on korkea kellotorni.
Valmistuessaan kaupungintaloon sijoittui kaupungin yleishallinto: maistraatti, sen kanslia, julkinen notaari, raastuvanoikeus, kaupunginviskaali, rahatoimikamari, kaupungin vouti, pastorinkanslia, kaupunginvaltuusto, lautakunnat ja palolaitos. Pohjakerroksessa, kivijalassa, olivat lisäksi myös poliisilaitos, lukusali ja kirjasto.
Suomen sisällissodan aikana kaupungintalon torni kärsi vaurioita Suomen kansanvaltuuskunnan tykkitulesta, joka oli kohdistettu osasto Brandensteinia vastaan. Lahden kansalaisopistolla toimivaa Lahden sotilassairaalaa vastaan ohjatusta tulesta saksalaiset lupasivat vankien teloituksia, joita lienee suoritettu kaupungintalon seinää vasten.
Kaupungintaloa laajennettiin 1934, jolloin sen avoimesta pihasta tuli sisäpiha. Laajennuksen suunnitteli arkkitehti Kaarlo Könönen. Lahden kaupungintalo joutui ilmapommituksen kohteeksi 27. tammikuuta 1940, jolloin se kärsi huomattavia palovahinkoja. Kaupungintalon tornissa oli kahden ilmavalvontalotan ylläpitämä ilmavalvonta-asema.
Pommitusten jälkeen virastot ja poliisilaitos siirrettiin Lahden yhteiskouluun. Kaupungintalon ullakko paloi 1981. Sen jälkeen talo korjattiin sekä saneerattiin. Töiden vuonna 1985 valmistuttua on kaupungintalon neliömäärä 5 160 m² ja tilavuus 19 950 m³.

Lahti City Hall by architect Eliel Saarinen in 1911 designed late Art Nouveau style representative building. The house is built from dark red brick, and has a high bell tower.
When completed, the City Hall was placed in the general administration: the magistrate, the Prime Minister's Office, notary public, County Court, Town representatives, the money in its chamber, the city's steward, the pastor's Office, City Council, Boards, and fire department.
