Tucked away in rural east central Indiana is the birthplace of Wilbur Wright. This home has been rebuilt and preserved as a history and aviation museum. Just outside the welcome center is a large military aircraft built only 50 years after the first flight, displayed so as to show how far aviation came in that short time frame. Inside the museum itself is a Wright flyer. The house is a replica built on the foundation of the original home. It includes period pieces of life in the late 1800's, along with the notation that Wilbur took his first steps at age 10 and 1/2 months, a sign his evangelist father was certain indicated a high level of intelligence. Inside the museum is not only a Wright Flyer, but glimpses into the life and character of Wilbur, his brother Orville, and his parents, sister and other, less famous brothers. A walk down Main Street shows the Wright Brothers bicycle shop, and a model wind tunnel. Also included is the model of the camp in which the Wright Brothers lived and worked at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, with artifacts from that time. A 17 minute video presentation includes the story of the photographer who captured one of the world's most famous photos--that of the first flight. Fascinating history and stories...
