In Provincetown, within the Pilgrim Monument and Museum, is an old fire apparatus on display, which was the first apparatus for the town.

The Pilgrim Monument and Museum is located on top of a ridge near the center of the town. The museum is the entrance point to the monument and is a separate building to the north of it. The fire apparatus is located on the right wing of the museum, surrounded by a white fence, making it hard to see the exhibit from a distance.

The wagon, nicknamed "George Washington," is a wooden vehicle mostly painted red, but with a black center-beam and a lot of detailing, as well. There are wooden beams on either side, probably to help push it, and hoses hanging on either side, closer in. The center part is painted with a shield and the name, "George Washington." Below that is "Provincetown P.F.D. 1836." In the brass plating is, "Patent" and then "No. 170 Made by W. C. Hunneman Roxbury Mass."

The white plaque on the fence has the following text:

"Provincetown's Oldest Fire Engine

A hand made, hand drawn pumper made with wide sand tires for Provicnetown by William C. Hunneman, an apprentice of Paul Revere. An end stroke engine popular in New England, with reversible pumping handles for narrow passageways, made in Roxbury, Mass."

Admission to the museum is $10, and there may be extra to park right at the museum (though there is little parking throughout town, so you may be paying another $6-10 anyway to be in Provincetown).
