The war memorial in Oegstgeest consists of three parts. Two vertical columns, granite, and a brick rear wall bear together the ribs of an iron dome. Under the dome there is a placed bronze statue.

The text at the monument:

'TER BLIJVENDE NAGEDACHTENIS AAN HEN
DIE VIELEN VOOR VRIJHEID EN RECHT
EN DOOR HUN OFFER
HET VADERLAND REDDEN VAN
GEESTELIJKE EN ZEDELIJKE ONDERGANG
IS DIT TEKEN GESTICHT
DOOR DE BURGERIJ VAN OEGSTGEEST.'

For lasting memory of them who fell for freedom and justice
and saved the motherland for moral and mental downfall by their sacrifice
This sign is founded by the citizens of Oegstgeest.

'O GOD, GIJ DIE DER VORSTEN HARTEN LEIDT
GELIJK EEN BEEK EN SCHIFT EN SCHEIDT
HET LICHT VAN DIKKE DUISTERNISSEN
LAAT DEN TIRAN ZIJN AANSLAG MISSEN
DIE DEN ONNOOZ'LEN LAGEN SCHEIDT.'

At the four plaques are the names of 46 killed civilians of Oegstgeest.

The monument is composed of two parts. One is a closed, self-protective area. The other is an open, active and aggressive part. These two parts run into each other and complement one another. Thus they symbolize the resistance. The horizontal direction of the statue is reinforced by the vertical columns. Thus, establishing a relationship between the open space (forest Wijckerslooth) and the space inside the monument.

The vertical granite columns and the brick back wall were already present in the forest. They formed the backdrop for a statue of sandstone previously damaged by vandals. It was replaced in 1982 by a bronze statue. The plaques were in 1995 added to the monument.
The small plaque was unveiled on May 4, 2000 by relatives of the soldiers, who during the ‘politionele acties’ in the former Dutch East Indies fought and died.
