James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) was a Scottish physicist, whose equations demonstrate that electricity, magnetism and light are all manifestations of the same phenomenon, namely the electromagnetic field.
This gargoyle like sculpture of Scottish physicist, James Clerk Maxwell, is located at the second story level on the west facing tower of Willamette Hall at the University of Oregon. A demon of his peeks out from under his beard.
Artist Wayne Chabre produced twelve hammered copper gargoyle-like sculptures for the University of Oregon from 1986 to 1988.
Amazingly, this sculpture can be seen in Google Street View, on the pathways of University of Oregon.
