I walk through this park daily and a few months ago went all the way to the back of the park and noticed this tree. I did a little research onliine and learned about trail trees and went back to document it a little better.
The tree is a Burl Oak, and is 164 inches circumference/23.55 inches diameter. I believe this dates it at 164 years old (mid-1840's).
I'm not sure if this is native American in origin or if it is a tree marking the route for the underground railroad. There was a well known crossing at Black Rock that ferried slaves across the Niagara River to freedom in Canada. This tree seems to point directly at Black Rock.
