The Whipple Clock Tower was completed in 1986 in conjunction with the construction of Willamette University's Mark O. Hatfield Library. The tower features clock faces visible from all four sides. The face of each clock is white with black markings to indicate the hours, with double markings at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. The hands of the clock are black.
The inscription on the plaque attached to the tower reads:

IN HONOR OF JIM S. AND MILDRED
WILCOX WHIPPLE, MEMBERS OF DOUGLAS
COUNTY PIONEER FAMILIES, WHOSE
COMMITMENT TO THE IMPORTANCE OF

UNITED METHODIST CHURCH EXEMPLIFIES
WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY'S MOTTO:
"NOT UNTO OURSELVES ALONE ARE WE BORN"
