In Wellfleet, on the Massachusetts Bay side of Cape Cod, is the Wellfleet Bay Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, which, as part of its trail network has several boardwalks taht take you across a brook, marshes and to the beach.
Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary is located to the north of the border between Wellfleet and Eastham and north of the Wellfleet Drive-In. From US 6, the sanctuary will be on your left. The long driveway goes to the parking lot on the left. From there walk to the Nature Center. There is an admission fee of $5 for non-members of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, free if you are a member. It would be good to take a map along the way, though there is a kiosk with a large map on the trailhead as you are leaving the butterfly garden.
There are three boardwalk segments known. All are along the way if you are heading toward the beach.
The first, where the waymark point is located, is a relatively short section that acts as a flat bridge along a pond and over the dam to the pond. This section is about 150 ft. long. The path is handicapped accessible to this boardwalk, which has a railing that someone can grab onto and walk along. While we were there, we saw a yellow legs bird fly in.
The second is between sand bars, where you will encounter fiddler crabs running to and from the holes they occupy. This section is at least 200 ft long. Along the way, you will cross a salt marsh where you can see more fiddler crabs as well as minnows and birds. This boardwalk has no railings and the boardwalk isn't completely flat, so I would question whether it is considered accessible.
The third is also between sand bars, and also crosses salt marsh. It is about 300 ft long. The end is a beach where you have great views of Wellfleet Bay, which opens to Massachusetts Bay. This boardwalk is also not completely flat, nor does it have hand railings.
