The building used to be the local mutual savings bank (thrift) in the district of Horn in Hamburg, Germany. In 2002, it was closed for good, and the building itself was vacant for over two years. Finally, in 2005, a Turkish greengrocery opened here but soon thereafter, the premises burnt down due to arson. After a while, the Meydan family finally re-opened a greengrocery here in 2007.
The market offers typical vegetables and fruits from the region of northern Germany, Denmark, and The Netherlands. Apart from that, one will get all the nice things from Turkey and the Middle East that you need for Turkish or Arabic dishes for quite reasonable prices including a small fresh meat counter bar. They always have special offers at occasions like Bayram at the End of Ramadan and such.
I really like to get my food and stuff from here since the people are all nice; they appreciate Germans who try to cook Arabic and offer always good tips for that, too. Additionally, the prices are reasonable, and the assortment of goods is overwhealming when it comes to veal, Turkish and Arabic bread, rice, and black tea. They make their Baklava on their own, and yes, it's very tasty indeed (50 cents per piece).
