There is a scenic overlook on High Tor that is worth the walk. The trail to get there is very interesting as well. Follow Naples Creek, switchbacks up the hillside then easy logging trails to the lean-to and overlook! Out and back.

This hike follows a selected segment of the Bristol Hills branch trails (total 54.1 miles) which is part of the Finger Lakes Trails system (total 562 miles). To get to the scenic overlook, you are looking at a strenuous 3.7 mile hike each way.

The coordinates above is the access point off Route 245, east of Naples Creek. Parking is in front of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Operations Center.

The first half mile is a flat walk along Naples Creek, with numerous entry points directly to the creek. When I first hiked this trail, my group joyously removed their hiking boots and "cooled their heals" in the creek on their way home. So, savor that image for your return trek!

A half mile into the hike, the path splits. Follow the red blazes into the woods. After a brief flat section, you will find yourself climbing. The climb quickly transitions into a stiff climb with 7 complete switchbacks over a mile of trail. After that mile, the switchbacks end with a straight climb to approximately the highest point of High Tor.

Now, at about two miles into the hike, the trail joins with old logging trails. These were put in during the 1990s to remove dead and dieing oaks that were devastated by gypsy moth infestation. At this point (N 42° 36.724 W 077° 22.328) Ignore the blue spur trail blazes and turn left, continuing to follow the red blazes.

The red blazes eventually go into the woods on the left. At this point, ignore the turnoff. If you continue down the logging trail, walk straight to the scenic overlook (N 42° 40.325 W 077° 22.401). There, you will find a lean-to, managed by the DEC. Overnight use is managed by permit, and only available to groups such as boy scouts and girl scouts. But the benches at the scenic overlook are free for all passer's by to use!
