Dashwood (original name Friedsburg) is a small, primarily residential, community in southwestern Ontario, Canada with a population of 400. The village is located at the intersection of Bronson Line and Dashwood Road.
Dashwood (Friedsburg) began in 1850's when it's first settlers, the Fried brothers, built a saw mill and followed shortly by a grist mill. By 1870 there was a hotel, a butcher shop, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and many other related enterprises. In 1871 Friedsburg had its first post office.
The blacksmith shop is located near the main intersection of the community along with many other old buildings, some original to the early beginnings of Dashwood.
