This lone silo is a remnant of a farm that was here many MANY decades ago. The farm was probably purchased for the construction of the Texas Turnpike (now the I-30) in the 1950s. There are no other farm buildings anywhere here anymore. The silo has been standing alone for as long as I can remember.
In 1974 Mom and I were driving home when I spotted a funnel cloud hanging from the bottom of a severe thunderstorn northwest of us. Our weather was clear and peaceful, but there was a tornado spinning maybe 10 miles away from us. We stopped at this silo to watch it. The funnel cloud was a perfect V extending from the wall cloud at the rear quadrant of the thunderstorm. We called it in to my Dad, who was working the news desk at WBAP-TV channel 5. Harold Taft (the legendary FW weatherman there) mentioned our call and the sight of the funnel cloud on the news that night. Harold said that the funnel was a tranquil, peaceful sight (since it was heading away from the city) -- NOT for me! I was 9 years old, and both scared stiff and completely transfixed!
