This is the remnant of a tree that attempted to consume the chain link fence at the Enterprise Car Rental on 9th Avenue in downtown Calgary, Alberta.

It's fairly obvious that this agressive tree would have taken over the fence that encloses vehicles in the lot here. Before this tree got too carried away much of it was turned to wood chips. The capacity of the tree to consume this fence still remains.
The bark that remains on the stump appears to be a Manitoba maple. They are described as Acer a small, usually fast-growing and fairly short-lived tree that grows up to 10–25 metres (33–82 ft) tall, with a trunk diameter of 30–50 centimetres (12–20 in), rarely up to 1 metre (3.3 ft) diameter.
