[FR] Ces bâtiments sont exceptionnels pour de multiples raisons et en particulier pour l’élévation des murs à plus de 7 mètres de hauteur, pour les dimensions de la grande salle Nord (40 m x 15 m) et pour leur état de conservation remarquable. Leur fonction a longtemps été obscure, on pense aujourd'hui qu'il s'agissait d'une mansio, un relais routier bien équipé, lieu d'étape éventuel pour la nuit situé tous les trente kilomètres environ. Les Maselles auraient été une station d'étape établie en bordure de la voie Tours-Bourges.
[EN] The enigmatic buildings were first classified as historical monuments by Prosper Mérimée in 1840 and emerged from oblivion thanks to Maurice Druon. they have been the subject of extensive excavations which have so far unfortunately failed to determine to determine their exact function.
It is assumed that it is a multi-purpose complex in relation its strategic location between the provinces of Turons, Carnutes and Bituriges with their local production of ceramics.
