In the Guide Section for Willamette University:
"Oldest of its structures is WALLER HALL, built (1864-67) in the form of a cross, and named for Rev. Alvin Waller, early-day missionary. The chapel and pipe organ are on the first floor." -Oregon: End of the Trail, 1940, page 233
Willamette University is the oldest in the west, and Waller Hall is the oldest university building still in use, west of the Mississippi River. It currently houses administration offices and features Renaissance style architecture. The building is across the street from the Oregon State Capitol. It underwent renovations in the late 1980s and again in 2005. The structure is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
