Like its neighbors, the 32nd state grew as small farm communities. Many settled by immigrants from Scandinavia and Germany. Two famous fictional towns are Sinclair Lewis's Gopher Prairie and Garrison Keilors Lake Wobegon which reflect this states heritage. But the vast forests, the huge open pit iron ore mines and the shipping at Lake Superior, attracted different residents with different trades which brought diversity.
Minnesota is known as the land of 15,000 lakes. There are 65 towns in MN with the word lake in them, not counting those that mean lake or water. There are also 13 falls, 10 rivers and 5 rapids.
Minnesotans are proud of their state and its beauty.
