This station opened on the 18th June 1972, together with Alvalade, Areeiro, Alameda and Arroios. The original project was designed by the architect Dinis Gomes and decoration from Maria Keil.
In 2006 both ends of the station were renovated, oddly with decoration from the same Maria Keil, 34 years later.
