Die Fährverbindung in Rumpenheim ist seit Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts urkundlich belegt. Rumpenheim war eine Hessen-Kasseler Exklave auf der südlichen Mainseite. Die einzige Möglichkeit, diesen Landesteil zu besuchen, ohne ins "Ausland" reisen zu müssen, war die Fährverbindung.
Die Gierseilfähre verfügt über zwei Führungsseile, die das Abtreiben der Fähre verhindern. Angetrieben wird sie von zwei Dieselmotoren mit 26 und 42 PS. Das heutige Schiff stammt aus dem Jahr 1946.

The ferry connection in Rumpenheim is documented since the beginning of the 17th Century. Rumpenheim was a Hesse-Kassel's exclave on the south side of Main. The only way to visit this part of the country without going "abroad" was the ferry.
The reaction ferry has two guide ropes to prevent the drifting of the ferry. It is powered by two diesel engines with 26 and 42 hp. Today's ship dates from the year 1946.
