DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1979 (AJL) THE STATION IS LOCATED ALONG THE WEST EDGE OF TANGIER ISLAND, AT THE TANGIER ISLAND AIRPORT, AT THE NORTH END OF THE SINGLE RUNWAY, AND ON LINE WITH THE WEST EDGE OF THE RUNWAY. OWNERSHIP--TOWN OF TANGIER, C/O AIRPORT MANAGER OWEN A. PARKS SR., P O BOX 2, TANGIER VA 23440. PHONE (804) 891-2496.
THE STATION MAY BE REACHED BY PASSENGER FERRY OR LANDING AT THE AIRPORT. PASSENGER FERRIES LEAVE MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY YEAR ROUND FROM CRISFIELD, MD AND SEASONALLY FROM FAIR PORT, VA AND ONANCOCK, VA. PLANES MAY BE CHARTED FROM THE MELFA AIRPORT. BICYCLES AND SMALL SHUTTLE VEHICLES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE ISLAND, INQUIRE LOCALLY.
THE STATION IS A STANDARD USE DISK STAMPED---PILOT 1979---, SET INTO THE TOP OF A ROUND CONCRETE MONUMENT 30 CM IN DIAMETER FLUSH WITH GROUND. LOCATED 39.2 METERS (128.7 FT) NORTHWEST FROM THE EASTERNMOST THRESHOLD LIGHT AT THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY, 28.4 METERS (93.0 FT) NORTH-NORTHEAST FROM THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE RUNWAY, 25.2 METERS (82.5 FT) NORTHEAST FROM THE WESTERNMOST THRESHOLD LIGHT AT THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY, AND 30.9 METERS (101.4 FT) NORTH FROM THE CENTER OF THE RUNWAY AT THE END OF THE PAVEMENT.
