Une porte ouverte sur la ville et sur le monde
Conçue par l'architecte René Richer, la Porte des Anciens Maires est financée par la municipalité avec l'aide de quelques dons particuliers.
Située à ce qui sont alors les limites ouest de la municipalité, la porte se veut un lieu d'ouverture à la fois sur la ville et sur le monde. Son architecture s'inspire des châteaux français de la Renaissance.
Sur l'un des piliers de la porte, une plaque énumère la succession des maires de Saint-Hyacinthe. Du côté opposé, un autre panneau rappelle les principaux événements qui ont marqué a municipalité, depuis sa fondation jusqu'en 1915. Au-dessus des deux tablettes, des cartouches rappellent l'origine des fondateurs de la ville en montrant un coq gaulois et une feuille d'érable canadienne accompagnés de la devise "Oublier ne puis".
A door opened on the city and the world
Designed by the architect René Richer, the door of former mayors is funded by the municipality with the help of some special gifts.
Just then what are the Western limits of the municipality, the door is a place of opening both on the city and the world. Its architecture is inspired by French Renaissance castles.
On one of the pillars of the door, a plaque lists the succession of mayors of Saint-Hyacinthe. On the opposite side, another panel recalled the major events that marked a municipality, since its Foundation until 1915. Above two bars, cartridges recall the origin of the founders of the city showing a Gallic rooster and a Canadian maple leaf accompanied by the motto "forget not then".
