Railway Post Office cars were Post Offices on wheels often serving a dual purpose through one section of the car being devoted to the Railway Express Agency which was the UPS/FedEx type service of its era. Mail was picked up on the fly from special holders while the train was moving, sorted while the train was in motion, and then dropped off on the fly at the train depot in the mail's destination cities or locations where it might be transferred to other trains on different routes. Parcels handled by the Railway Express Agency were picked up and/or dropped off while the train was stationary in the stations.
